Drawings
Diego creates his drawings and watercolors only from memory.
All the drawings shown in this section are classified into two categories. The "cartons" produced in front of the public, in general large formats, pushing the artist to release from his unconscious a basic graphic vocabulary. The second category regroups finalized and preserved drawings, always made from memory.
The period spent in Montreal, in the Belgo's galleries (523-521) for more than ten years, has allowed the artist to structure his creative approach by forcing him to actually understand what he saw, not what he just imagined.
A large audience witnessed the process (tens of thousands of people) from 2007 to 2016.
The objective was simple, logical, to allow Diego Piccini da Todi to free himself from study from life and too long creation sessions.
Please note that these photos are registered works of visual art, having been the subject of exhibitions.
The beginning (2007 - 2016)...
Working in front of the audience ... and observing the reactions
Inès Malavida (2011) was the first exhibition of drawings in situation, in the comics category. On more than 8 meters of large format sheets (X2 triptychs) placed directly on the walls of the gallery, Diego Piccini da Todi drew 6 compositions with a simple graphite pen and a cloth. The photos presented here show the very first phase: the composition of the scene and the fundamental structural features which are supposed to partially disappear afterwards, during the fading phases and the superimpositions of the other "drawing layers". The characters are then massive, indefinite, but that's where the work begins. It is no longer a question of drawing, but sculpture on paper.
Examples of the other phases are now revealed on this site. They clearly present the degrees of finish of this technique. Note that this work is done from pure memory without any model in front of him (as with all of the artist's drawings). The last four phases consist of adding any colors (watercolor or diluted paint).
